THE RESTORATION OF WESLEY HALL
It was with both apprehension and excitement that in the year 2015 we took over Whitby’s iconic Wesley Hall. Apprehension at the enormity of the project, but excitement that we would be able to restore this important building back to its former glory.
RESTORATION DETAILS & HISTORY
From the start, our ethos was to transform, repair and conserve Wesley Hall into a condition where it would not need to be touched again for another hundred years. To achieve this, we decided that no expense would be spared and anything that needed repairing would be matched up as closely as possible to the original, rather than being replaced with modern alternatives. No matter how long it took, we would stick to this philosophy.
The two biggest changes we implemented in Wesley Hall were the new disabled access to the side of the building and the spiral staircase put in to gain access to the upstairs library and archives.
To our benefit, the building was originally put together to a very high standard. The quality was always there but over a hundred years of wear and tear had taken its toll and in most cases we simply had to revive Wesley’s existing features.
Pictured are just some of the features we have had the pleasure to restore and rejuvenate. Discover more images on our social media channels, or call in to witness first hand the amazing transformation.
